There is no way to accurately predict how many snowstorms will hit the county during a given season.
Some years, Cecil County skates by with hardly any bad winter weather.
Other years, the county gets blasted with snow and ice.
This year’s county budget has $400,000 in place to handle snow removal.
With the cost to remove snow from county roads totaling approximately $200,000 per snow event, the county has the money budgeted to handle two snows.
Knowing that this is an area of the budget that is impossible to remain fixed, there is contingency money in the county to handle more snow removal if the winter of 2017-2018 turns ugly. During major snow events, the county can also receive emergency money from the state.
