The Susquehanna Workforce Network (SWN) was recently awarded funding for a new Entry Level Manufacturing Training Class.

This training program is part of the Manufacturing Training Initiative in Cecil and Harford Counties to increase the pipeline of workers for the industry. The program components were identified by area manufacturers through the Susquehanna Manufacturers Coalition as critical foundation skills for entry into manufacturing jobs.

The program consists of ten competency training components: math of manufacturing, OSHA Safety Training, Basic Machining, Print Reading, CAD/3D/Lasers, Maintenance Shop Skills, Hydraulics, Pneumatic Controls, Basic Electricity and Forklift Operator Certification.

The training will be available for new workers and employees of area manufacturers needing to enhance their skills. Participants who are not employed at entry into the program will be connected to manufacturers throughout the program and upon successful completion be provided with priority referrals to hiring manufacturers.

“This is a unique training program that meets skill needs as identified by the region’s manufacturers,” Bruce england, SWN Executive Director said. “We are pleased to partner with Harford Community College to advance efforts that will prepare our workforce for one of the region’s largest industry sectors.”

Area resident interested in participating in thi program should visit one of the region’s three Workforce Centers located in Elkton, Aberdeen and Bel Air. Information and interviews for this training program will begin on November 20, 2017.

This program is supported through an Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) grant from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The susquehanna Manufacturing Coalition is comprised of area manufacturers, representatives from the offices of economic development, school systems and community colleges.
