With State Championship berths out of the way, the biggest tournament of the year for Cecil County golfers is the yearly Invitational for the county’s five schools. On an unseasonably warm afternoon at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Bohemia Manor dominated the team and individual action.
Led by Hunter Tollinger’s medal-earning 77, the Eagles posted a team score of 520, more than 40 strokes better than the nearest competitor. With Will Smethurst’s 78, followed by Jacob Cotero (85), Stephen Lemerand (90), Jeremy Nettles (95) and Hayden Hancharick (95) Bohemia Manor easily took the title.
Genesis Diaz led the girl’s division with a 79, even though she struggled throughout the round. Jordyn Pollitt was next with an 87.
In the team competition, Perryville finished second at 567, North East finished third at 599, followed by Rising Sun at 624 and Elkton at 664.
Along with Tollinger, Diaz and Pollitt will be headed to the Maryland State Golf Championship next week in College Park at the University of Maryland Golf Course.
