Ethel J. Thompson passed away peacefully on July 28, 2015 at the age of 97 at Greenville Glen Assisted Living, Greenville, South Carolina.
Ethel was born in 1918 to Stanley and Dora Beers in Fair Hill, Maryland. After graduating from Calvert High School, Ethel attended Goldey Beacom Business College. Upon graduating, she worked as a secretary for the DuPont Company and married William Batten, Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Woodmansee (Don) of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Joanne Bramble (Ken) of Falcon, Colorado; four grandchildren, Lisa Wyatt (Ed) of Rising Sun, Maryland, Mark Woodmansee (Anh) of Houston, Texas, Michael Woodmansee (Aline) of Yuzhno-Sakalinsk, Russia, and Ken Bramble, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also has four great grandchildren. After 26 years of service, Ethel retired from the DuPont Company. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing the piano, gardening, sewing, and quilting. She was a lifetime member of the Newark Senior Center and the Red Hat Society.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 1:30 – 2:30 pm, followed by service at 2:30 pm at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
